The Department of Veterans Affairs now provides eligible veterans with no-cost acupuncture treatments for a variety of conditions, including pain, PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Call the VA at 1-866-606-8198 to confirm your eligibility and schedule an appointment.

Within 3-5 business days, TriWest should call you to set up an appointment. Tell them you would like to go to AcuMedGroup Wellness Center. Within another 3-5 business days, they will call you again to confirm your appointment with us.

2. TriWest will then send AcuMedGroup approval for a certain number of treatments for a given period of time. We’ll then call you to confirm your appointment.

3. In 2017, more than 47,000 veterans were authorized to receive acupuncture care outside VA medical centers.

4. Acupuncture has become a leading pain treatment for veterans after a government study revealed that 33 percent of veterans used opioids, a rate that was much higher than in the general public.

When you are authorized for acupuncture through VA Community Care, the VA pays AcuMedGroup directly for your treatment. You pay nothing out-of-pocket — no copay, no deductible. This is true for all VA-authorized acupuncture treatment at AcuMedGroup Wellness Center in Kissimmee.

How long does it take to get VA approval for acupuncture?

Once you request a referral from your VA primary care provider, authorization typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. The AcuMedGroup team in Kissimmee can guide you through what to ask for and how to follow up if there are delays.

Can I use my regular insurance and VA Community Care?
